Ghost ship series: Full moon rising
Full Moons are traditionally associated with temporal insomnia, insanity and various magical phenomena such as lycanthropy. You might have seen the film, Ghost Ship, but not might be aware that ghost ships have existed for centuries. Like the movie, some ghost ships are fictional, while others are real. Some ghost ships crewed by the dead, while some ghost ships are real ships that have disappeared or sunk tragically. Ghost ship series: Full moon rising, Open Edition Surrealism Prints
Angel of Infinity
While angels and demons alike are generally regarded as invisible to human sight, they are frequently depicted as human-like creatures with wings, though many theologians have argued that they have no physical existence, but can take on human form. Most theologians agree that angels have no gender. Therefore, they usually appear as androgynous, although guardian angels appear more feminine and maternal. The angels of the Bible generally appear in the role of God's messengers to mankind. They are His instruments by whom He communicates His will to men, and in Jacob's vision they are depicted as ascending and descending the ladder which stretches from earth to heaven while the Eternal Father gazes upon the wanderer below. Such appearances of angels generally last only so long as the delivery of their message requires, but frequently their mission is prolonged, and they are represented as the constituted guardians of the nations at some particular crisis, e.g. during the Exodus. Haunting Goth
Contemporary gothic culture is a celebration of music, dress and attitude all wrapped around Thanatos, the Greek concept of death. Gothic music encompasses a number of different styles. Common to all is a tendency towards depression, sacred, supernatural, mystical sound and views. Modern Gothic rock music otherwise called Goth rock is a genre of alternative rock. The genre itself was defined as a split movement from punk rock during the early 1980s. Gothic music artists deal with dark themes and intellectual movements such as gothic terror, Romanticism, surrealism, and nihilism. Gothic fantasy or Expiatory temple
Inspired by The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia, the unfinished masterpiece of Barcelona’s most celebrated architect, Antonio Gaudi. This famous surreal and modernist architecture has been a source of creative inspiration for many artists. Its surrealistic nature and visual appearance cannot leave you untouched. The Spanish cathedral presented in American environment of Niagara Falls gives the temple image an additional icy appearance that corresponds to the surrealistic and gothic architectural style of this great well-known creation. Gothic art architecture is a style that flourished during the high and late medieval period. It is also the architecture of many castles, palaces, town halls, universities, and to a less prominent extent, private dwellings. The primary Gothic art mediums were sculpture, panel painting, stained glass, fresco and illuminated manuscript. Gothic art told a narrative story through pictures. Final Frontier Voyager
Final Frontier Voyager by George Grie: In early Classical Antiquity, the Earth was generally believed to be flat. Greek philosophers from that time period were prone to form conclusions similar to those of Anaximander, who believed the Earth to be a short cylinder with a flat, circular top. It is conjectured that the first person to have advocated a spherical shape of the Earth was Pythagoras (6th century BC), but this idea is not supported by the fact that most presocratic Pythagoreans considered the world to be flat. Belief in a flat Earth is found in mankind's oldest writings. In early Mesopotamian thought, the world was portrayed as a flat disk floating in the ocean, and this forms the premise for early Greek maps like those of Anaximander and Hecataeus.
The Flat Earth Society
"The facts are simple, " says Charles K. Johnson, president of the International Flat Earth Research Society. "The earth is flat." As you stand in his front yard, it is hard to argue the point. From among the Joshua trees, creosote bushes, and tumbleweeds surrounding his southern California hillside home, you have a spectacular view of the Mojave Desert. It looks as flat as a pool table. The last known group of Flat Earth proponents, the Flat Earth Society, kept the concept alive and at one time claimed a few thousand followers. The society declined in the 1990s following a fire at its headquarters in California and the death of its last president.
William Carpenter (1830-1896) maintained that "There are rivers that flow for hundreds of miles towards the level of the sea without falling more than a few feet - notably, the Nile, which, in a thousand miles, falls but a foot. A level expanse of this extent is quite incompatible with the idea of the Earth's "convexity." Carpenter also presented aeronautic testimony that even at the great observable heights no curvature of the earth is observed, and fits with the idea of a flat-earth, since it is the nature of level surfaces to rise to a level with the human eye.
English scientist Samuel Rowbotham (1816-1885), writing under the pseudonym "Parallax, " published results of many experiments which tested the curvatures of water over lakes. He also produced studies which purported to show the effects of ships disappearing into the horizon can be explained by the laws of perspective in relation to the human eye.
Angels and Demons: Angel of Mercy
The Angel of Mercy was one of the first of the caring Angels, and all the spirits, this one has to be of extreme compassion, gentleness, and to have Love radiating from its very being, for no-one can leave this world without being touched by this Spirit. The distinction of good and bad angels constantly appears in the Bible, but it is instructive to note that there is no sign of any dualism or conflict between two equal principles, one good and the other evil. The conflict depicted is rather that waged on earth between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of the Evil One, but the latter's inferiority is always supposed. The existence, then, of this inferior, and therefore created, spirit, has to be explained. Surreal Artist Gallery
Ice Age Premonition
Modern art surrealism by George Grie, Iceberg Synthesizer – Ice age wallpaper :
The causes of ice ages remain controversial for both the large-scale ice age periods and the smaller ebb and flow of glacial/interglacial periods within an ice age. The consensus is that several factors are important: atmospheric composition (the concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, sulfur dioxide, [citation needed] and various other gases and particulates in the atmosphere); changes in the Earth's orbit around the Sun known as Milankovitch cycles (and possibly the Sun's orbit around the galaxy); the motion of tectonic plates resulting in changes in the relative location and amount of continental and oceanic crust on the Earth's surface; variations in solar output; the orbital dynamics of the Earth-Moon system; and the impact of relatively large meteorites, and eruptions of super volcanoes. Some of these factors are causally related to each other. For example, changes in Earth's atmospheric composition (especially the concentrations of greenhouse gases) may alter the climate, while climate change itself can change the atmospheric composition (for example by changing the rate at which weathering removes CO2).
Discussions of causes are complicated by the tendency for scientists to emphasize their own disciplinary specializations; e.g., criminologists may emphasize changes in the Earth's atmosphere and geologists may emphasize the positions of the continents.
The first to explain the formation of icebergs was the Russian peasant prodigy. In the 20th century, several scientific bodies were established to study and monitor the icebergs. The International Ice Patrol, formed in 1914 in response to the Titanic disaster, monitors iceberg dangers near the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and provide the "limits of all known ice" in that vicinity to the maritime community.
There was no system in place before 1912 to track icebergs to guard against ship collisions. The sinking of the RMS Titanic, which caused the death of more than 1, 500 of its 2, 223 passengers, created the demand for a system to observe icebergs. For the remainder of the ice season of that year, the United States Navy patrolled the waters and monitored ice flow. In November 1913, The International Conference on the Safety of Life at Sea met in London to devise a more permanent system of observing icebergs. The goal of the IIP was to collect data on meteorology and oceanography in order to measure currents, iceflow, ocean temperature, and salinity levels.
Mermaid Syndrom
Mermaid Syndrom by George Grie, Tales of mermaids are nearly universal. The first known mermaid stories appeared in Assyria, ca. 1000 BCE. Atargatis, the mother of Assyrian queen Semiramis, was a goddess who loved a mortal shepherd and in the process killed him. Ashamed, she jumped into a lake to take the form of a fish, but the waters would not conceal her divine nature. Thereafter, she took the form of a mermaid — human above the waist, fish below — though the earliest representations of Atargatis showed her as being a fish with a human head and legs, similar to the Babylonian Ea. The Greeks recognized Atargatis under the name Derketo, where she was often conflated with Aphrodite. Prior to 546 B.C., the Milesian philosopher Anaximander proposed that mankind had sprung from an aquatic species of animal. He thought that man with his extended infancy could not have survived, originally, in the manner he does presently. This idea does not appear to have survived Anaximander's death.
Dreams of flying, surreal art
Flying with Wings: The analogy to Angels and Birds is evident here. You feel that you are a strong force going into the future and that you have high principles and ethics that most mortals don't have. You feel that you have risen above the riff-raff and are soaring to new heights with a clear vision. Freely flying as high or as low as you wish using your arms or feet for direction, often with the ability to do acrobatics in the air is an indication that you feel really superior about something in your life.
Also common are feelings of rising off the bed or flying. In addition, people report out-of-body experiences, sometimes accompanied by "autoscopy" when they look down on themselves. Not surprisingly, these moments are accompanied by fear - what are now called "near-death experiences". Today, the two odd effects are linked by a study that backs the idea that the near-death experience is a biological experience, rather than anything to do with a spiritual dimension, a glimpse of heaven or the existence of the soul.
